Lynda, Baroness Chalker of Wallasey
Prior to representing Wallasey in the British House of Commons from 1974-1992, Baroness Chalker worked in marketing research for Kodak, Unilever, Shell Mex, and British Petroleum Limited. She has held a number of roles in the British Government, including Parliamentary Undersecretary of Social Services (1979-1982), Parliamentary Undersecretary in the Department of Transport (1982-1983), Minister of State for Transport (1983-1986), and Minister of State at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (1986-1997). In 1992, Lady Chalker was made a life member of the House of Lords. Since May of 1997, Lady Chalker has consulted on African-related issues for a number of commercial companies and the World Bank. She serves on the Board of Directors of several companies, including Unilever plc, Freeplay Energy Holdings Company, and Landell Mills Ltd. Baroness Chalker also serves as President of several organizations, including Southern Africa Business Association, British Executive Services Overseas, Transparency International in the United Kingdom, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, the Intermediate Technology Development Group, and a small overseas development related consultancy called Africa Matters, Limited.
